HISTORY OF THE AWARD:

Medal for Meritorious Service to Blood Transfusion (Medaille für Verdienste um das Blutspenden des Österreichischen Roten Kreuzes) Ribbon: red with a double white central stripe. Instituted on 5th July 1969. Awarded for meritorious contributions to the blood donation system. There are three grades: bronze, silver and gold. Oval medal with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the crowned Austrian eagle with a gilt-edged white enamel escutcheon bearing a gilt-edged red enamel Greek (Geneva) cross imposed on its breast within a stylised laurel leaf border; the reverse inscribed ‘FÜR BESONDERE VERDIENSTE UM DAS ÖSTERREICHISCHE ROTE KREUZ’ (For outstanding service to the Austrian Red Cross) above a spray of laurel. The medal is identical to the Austrian Red Cross Medal of Merit but is issued with a primarily red ribbon, rather than a red and white striped ribbon. Grades of the award: Bronze medal for services to the blood donation of the Austrian Red Cross, Silver medal for services to the blood donation system of the Austrian Red Cross, Golden medal for services to the blood donation system of the Austrian Red Cross, Golden medal with bronze laurel wreath for services to the blood donation system of the Austrian Red Cross, Golden medal with a silver laurel wreath for services to the blood donation system of the Austrian Red Cross & Golden medal with a golden laurel wreath for services to the blood donation system of the Austrian Red Cross. The Bronze Medal of Merit for services to blood donation can be used for 25 voluntary whole blood donations to the Austrian Red Cross, at least 15 voluntary whole blood donations as well as special use in advertising blood donors and organizing blood donation campaigns or in cases of illness or when the child reaches the age of 65 after checking the State of affairs. The Silver Medal of Merit for Services to Blood Donation can be awarded for 50 voluntary whole blood donations to the Austrian Red Cross, at least 35 voluntary whole blood donations as well as particularly active participation in the advertising of voluntary blood donors and the organization of blood donation campaigns or in the event of illness or when the child reaches the age of 65 Examination of the situation. The Golden Medal of Merit for services to blood donation can be awarded for 75 voluntary whole blood donations to the Austrian Red Cross, in the event of illness or when the child reaches the age of 65 after examining the facts. The Golden Medal of Merit with a bronze laurel wreath for services to blood donation can be awarded for 100 voluntary blood donations to the Austrian Red Cross in the event of illness or when the child reaches the age of 65 after examining the facts. The Golden Medal of Merit with a silver laurel wreath for services to the blood donation system can be awarded for 125 voluntary blood donations to the Austrian Red Cross or in the event of illness or after reaching the age of 65 after examination of the facts. The Golden Medal of Merit with a golden laurel wreath for services to the blood donation system can be awarded for 150 voluntary blood donations to the Austrian Red Cross or in the event of illness or when the child reaches the age of 65 after checking the facts.
