Original German / Prussian / Kurhessian Anniversary Commemorative Bronze Medal (1813 - 22 NOVEMBER - 1913), THIS IS AN ULTRA RARE MEDAL, ONLY 595 (!) WERE AWARDED OF THE "22 NOVEMBER 1913" VERSION (SEE BELOW IN THE DESCRIPTION), VERY NICE CONDITION, ON NEW RIBBON, VERY GOOD EXAMPLE OF AN EXTREMELY RARE MEDAL

HISTORY OF THE AWARD:

Prussian / Kurhessian Anniversary Commemorative Bronze Medal - This commemorative medal was instituted on 4 July 1913 by King and Emperor Wilhelm II for the former Hessian troops. The occasion was the 100th anniversary of the regiments under Prussian command. The medals were minted in Berlin by Otto Oertel. The medals were awarded at the jubilee celebration only. Front: in the middle on a pedestal a lion lying to the left, head bowed. The lion's tail swings forward before overlaying the pedestal. Under the pedestal in a recess 2 crossed, strong oak leaves branches. Back: on the smooth ground the 3-line script - 1813 - 22 NOVEMBER - 1913 -, - 1813 - 23 NOVEMBER - 1913 -, - 1813 - 30 NOVEMBER - 1913 - and - 1813 - 5 DECEMBER - 1913 -. In addition to the years left and right each a small branch of oak leaves 3 pieces. Ribbon: white 35 mm, white edges 2.5 mm, orange side strips 7 mm (same as for the Order of Red Eagle). Diameter: 39 mm, weight: 31 g. Four different medals with the same front and different backs were donated for the respective troops: 1. Medals with the writing November 22, 1813 - 1913 on the back were awarded to the following troop units: 1st Kurhessian Field Artillery Regiment No. 11 (location Kassel) with 196 awards, 3rd Kurhessian Infantry Regiment "Von Wittich" No. 83 (No. Locations 1866 Fulda and Hersfeld from 1867 Kassel and Arolsen) with 224 awards, Kurhessisches Füsilier Regiment "Von Gersdorff" No. 80 (various locations including Wiesbaden, Hanau, Mainz, Marburg) with 127 medals and the 1st Kurhessische Hussar Regiment "King Humbert of Italy" No. 13 (locations were 1866-1875 Hofgeismar, until 1902 Frankfurt / Main, until 1905 Mainz and from 1905 Diedenhofen) with 48 awards. The regiments were used in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71, among others in Wörth where there are also monuments for the regiments in the vicinity. Altogether there are 595 of this medal were awarded. 2. Medals with the back script November 23, 1813 - 1913 were awarded only to the Hussars Regiment Landgrave Friedrich II of Hesse -Homburg, (2nd Kurhessisches) No. 14. With only 83 awards this variant is the rarest of the 4 commemorative medals. After 1866 the Kurhessian cavalry were formed into 2 regiments. The 2nd Kurhessische Hussars Regiment was incorporated as Hussars Regiment No. 14 in the Prussian army. In the German-French War of 1870/71, the regiment fought in the 21st Division, inter alia, in Weissenburg, Wörth and the siege of Paris. The regiment was the first to move into the French capital. Some troops then reported to the security force and fought in China and German Southwest Africa. 3. Medals with the back script - November 30, 1813-1913 - all the veteran Kurhessian soldiers of the regiment who participated in the celebrations or stayed away without being responsible. The 2nd Kurhessian Infantry Regiment No. 82 was formed from the 1866 established 2nd Infantry Regiment Landgrave Wilhelm and supplemented by 12 companies. In the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71, the regiment fought at Wörth, Sedan and Paris. In World War I, the regiment was first used in Belgium and then with the XI. Army Corps in East Prussia. In 1917 the regiment was transferred to France and fought before Verdun and Reims. Known are about 170 awards. 4. The medal with the inscription on the back - 5 December 1813 - 1913 - was awarded to members of the infantry regiment Landgrave Friedrich I of Hesse-Kassel (1st Kurhessische) No. 81 and to the Kurhessische Jägerbataillon No. 11. The infantry regiment was reorganized in 1813. The story goes back to 1789. In 1813 the regiment consisted of 2 musketeer battalions, 1 fusilier battalion and 2 grenadier companies. The regiment took part in the following battles in 1815: storming Charleville, battles with Mohon and St. Julien. Garrison was until 1871 Mainz. Thereafter, the regiment was relocated to Frankfurt / Main and Fulda. In World War I, the regiment fought in France, among others, the Somme and the Champangne. The award numbers are 226 to the Infantry Regiment and 220 to the Jägerbataillon. These are 446 awards in total.
