HISTORY OF THE AWARD:

Saxony Kingdom Reserve and Territorial Army Service Medal, II class (Landwehr-Dienstauszeichnung II. Klasse), 1913-1918 - Circular gilt red bronze (tombak) medal with laterally-pierced loop for ribbon suspension; the face with crowned cipher of King Friedrich August III circumscribed ‘Treue Dienste Reserve Landwehr’; the reverse inscribed ‘Landwehr Dienstaus-zeichnung II. Klasse’ (Territorial Army Service Award 2nd class). The medal was instituted on 6 September 1913 to replace the gilt metal badge (schnalle) that had been awarded since 1874 to officers, doctors, non-commissioned officers and enlisted men on completion of their service with the Army Reserve or Territorial Army (Landwehr) and participation in at least one campaign.
