HISTORY OF THE AWARD:
Wurttemberg Charlotte Cross (Charlottenkreuz), 1916-1918 - Silver cross bottony with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with a circular central medallion bearing the intertwined initials of King Wilhelm II and Queen Charlotte of Württemberg; the reverse with a circular central medallion bearing the date ‘1916’. The Cross was instituted by King Wilhelm II on 5 January 1916 in honour of Queen Charlotte (born Princess of Schaumburg-Lippe) to recognise those ,regardless of status, who tended the sick and wounded, both at the front and at home or who had made other contributions to the war. This award was donated by King Wilhelm II in honor of Queen Charlotte (bored princess of the Schaumburg-Lippe family).
