HISTORY OF THE AWARD:

Bavarian 1848 Veteran’s Cross for Participants of the 1790-1812 Conflicts (Veteranendenkzeichen für die Feldzüge 1790-1812); a bronze cross; the obverse with a Bavarian lion in the centre, inscribed “Den Veteranen des Bayer Heeres” on all four arms of the cross; the reverse inscribed “Max II König von Bayern” on all four arms of the cross; on a double loop for suspension; measuring 36.06 mm x 39.69 mm; weighing 14.4 grams. The award was instituted by King Maximilian II on June 30, 1848 for the fighters of the campaigns from 1790 to 1812. As well as for the continuation of the fighting against Russia until after the Battle of Leipzig on October 18, 1813. This included all military personnel who were in the Bavarian army until 1812. Soldiers from other German states who took part in the campaigns in the Bavarian army during this time also received the award.
