HISTORY OF THE AWARD:

Saxony Long Service Medal II. Class for 15 Years’ Service (Dienstauszeichnung für 15 Jahre Silberne Medaille) - instituted in 1874 by King Albert and Regent Friedrich August II. The obverse bearing a wreathed combined monogram of King Anton and Regent Friedrich August II, the reverse with an inscription of “FÜR LANGE U. GUTE DIENSTE” (“FOR LONG AND EXCELLENT SERVICE”), within a border of stylized oak leaves, measuring cca 29 mm in diameter, weighing cca 12 grams. The new generation of service awards replaced the previous NCO service awards ssued until 1878. They were awarded to NCOs and enlisted men for 21, 15 and 9 years of service”. In 1913 they were replaced by a new type of service awards again.
