HISTORY OF THE AWARD:
Medal of Honour of the World War 1914-1918 (Ehrenmedaille des Weltkrieges 1914-1918) - This award was instituted by the Frontkämpfer des Weltkrieges e.V. (Association of the Front Fighters of the World War) after the 1st World War. The medal was also issued with combat badges (Frontkampfabzeichen). The combat badge is a gold-plated cut out style badge consisting a round wreath of oak leaves with 2 crossed swords on it. The awarding practice of this medal is fairly unknown. It can be assumed only that members of the association could apply for this medal. As a rule, proof of where the person fought had to be provided by means of a military ID or Soldbuch. It is also uncertain which requirements had to be met to acquire the combat badge. After the World War, many participants in the war felt the need to have a commemorative medal or decoration of the world war. The veterans united in numerous clubs and warrior leagues. These then instituted various decorations for their members as no official memorial cross was issued by the state until 1934 (Honour Cross). The ribbon of the award is identical to the Kyffhauser League 1914-1918 War Veterans Commemorative Medal (Kyffhäuserbund Kriegsdenkmedaille). A very rare award.
