HISTORY OF THE AWARD:

Austria Republic Medal for 40 Years’ Service (Ehrenmedaille für 40-jährige Treue Dienste), 1927-1938 - Large circular gilt bronze medal with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the figure ‘40’ encircled by an oak wreath and circumscribed ‘BUNDESSTAAT ÖSTERREICH’ (Federal State of Austria); the reverse inscribed ‘FÜR VIERZIG JÄHRIGE TREUE DIENST’ (For forty years of loyal service). The medal was instituted in 1927 to reward long and faithful service to the Austrian state. It became defunct in 1938 when Austria was incorporated into the German Reich.
