HISTORY OF THE AWARD:

Wurttemberg Medal of Recognition of the King Karl Jubilee Foundation in Silver (Annerkennungs-Medaille der König-Karl-Jubiläums-Stiftung - Silber) - Circular silver medal with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the head and shoulders portrait in relief of King Karl facing right, circumscribed ‘KOENIG-KARL-JUBILAEUMS-STIFTUNG’ (King Karl’s Jubilee Foundation), the reverse inscribed ‘FÜR LANGJÄHRIGE TREUE DIENSTE’ (For long and faithful service) surrounded by a wreath of oak. The Jubilee Foundation was created in 1891 on the occasion of the silver jubilee of King Karl with an endowment of 528,000 marks under the management of the Interior Ministry to improve the welfare of the rural needy and to support new small businesses and home industries. Two years later, in 1893, the medal was instituted to recognise long and faithful service in such enterprises. The 2nd version of medal was established in 2 classes (silver and bronze) in 1920, by the Free State of Wurttemberg. The silver medal was awarded to workers (of mainly the commercial and agricultural sector) for 35 years of service. State employees and staff were excluded, while the medal could also be awarded to foreigners.
