HISTORY OF THE AWARD:

Prussian Commemorative Medal for Rescue from Danger (Erinnerungsmedaille für Rettung aus Gefahr) 1925-1933 - Large circular table medal; the face with the Prussian eagle, head facing right, wings outstretched, inscribed ‘REPUBLIK’ above and ‘PREUSSEN’ below; the reverse inscribed ‘FÜR RETTUNG AUS GEFAHR’ (For Rescue from Danger) within an oak leaf border in relief, diameter cca 50 mm. The award was instituted on 9 June 1925 for rescue from danger at the peril of rescuer’s life and was awarded very sparingly. The first version was manufactured in silver, silver plated and zinc / alloy examples are also known.
